Apparantly, a friend of Dr. Dan Evers, also a veterinarian has a place in Valles escondidos and lives here part time and was supposed to be practicing while Dr. Evers is away.

Does anyone know about him?

Who Cares!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!? When you need a good vet in a hurry, are you going to bother asking about his b............... licence. We found a great Panamanian vet, dont know if even he has a licence, but he operated on a table on his front porch. It doesnt really matter to most animal lovers whether you are black white, male, female, licenced here or on Mars. Helping our pet is all we care about.

Jeff Mullen is out of Panama until the end of February. I need vet help for my cat who will not eat or drink and is wasting away. I have already brought her to Dr Moreno in David, who could not figure out what was wrong. (however, no blood or xrays were offered). I have tried force feeding her, but she is just throwing it up. At this point she is just a skeleton. Are there any vets in Boquete who speak a little English, who can euthanize her at home? I hate to do this, but she is just suffering.

Locally, Dr. Chely Castillo has always been good to us. She does blood work on the spot and has results back within a couple of hours. Take a right at Banistmo and keep going. Her office is on the right. Her phone is 6518-4127.

If you're not ready to give up, I have friends whose cat was given up on by other vets but was brought back to life by Dr. Caballero in David at the Belim (or Bellim) clinic. Phone: 775-2998. Directions: on the main road into town off the Interamerican, take a right just before the Y intersection, where there's a sign for a bar (sorry, I can't remember the name). It's the road you take to the Gran Hotel Internacional that runs to the the right of Banco General, Panama Bill's, etc. The clinic is on the left. You can't miss it. My friends had visited several other vets with their cat and had given up on her, but Dr. Cabellero diagnosed the problem and prescribed medication that brought her back around with a week or so.

JudySacco, JSacco on this forum, has lots of info about vets. You might want to contact her directly.

Thanks Bonnie. I thought Chely now did blood work right here in town, but I wasn't sure. I have heard Dr. Caballero (Clinic Belen) is a good vet. I talked privately to Carol about her cat, and she told me about another vet in Boquete who is available at night and will come to the house (he works for a govt. agency in the daytime). His name is Dr. Felix Gonzales, known locally as "Coco". His numbers are 6588-3039 and 720-1700.

I want to put together a vet reference similar to the one Howard and Yolanda did for medical doctors. I welcome input from anyone who has a favorite vet. Also I would like to know what they are especially good at and if they speak any English.

Here in David, we have been using Dr. Gomez at Jorge Henri. He speaks English and he does blood tests as well. We use him for the basic vaccinations, and easy diagnoses. We had a diabetic Rottweiler that died last October and we were unable to find any vets here in Panama that were able to help him. He wasn't the most friendly dog either which made it harder to find willing vets. Another problem was that Caninsulin was NOT available in Panama - we had to get it in Canada or Europe. Long story short, we feel that he might have died from complications of both tick fever, and diabetes....we sure miss him.

Another one of our dogs (Sheba) was treated by K-Nino in Panama City. Dr. Gonzalez and a number of other vets at K-Nino all speak a little English and the clinic works 24 hrs/day. One night, Dr. Gomez was not available for Sheba who was became very ill and did not want to eat and was in obvious discomfort. Dr. Gomez wanted us to come in the morning but we were not going to take the chance (she could have been dead). We put Sheba in the car and drove all the way to Panama city to K-Nino. (it took only 5 hrs) At 1 am, K-Nino was ready and waiting. They immediately put her on a drip and did all kinds of tests. She was dehydrated and her organs had started to fail. But K-Nino has helped Sheba twice now and both times, she came back like a new dog !!! (we rescued Sheba 5 years ago and she had had stomach problems then - they occasionally re-occur). So far, this is the only vet clinic in Panama that we are comfortable with.

Do you have the phone number for K-Nino? I want to put them on the list I'm making. Dr. Gomez is on the list.

Do people use "Revolution" on their dogs in Boquete? I have begun using it on my dog here in Florida on a trial basis thinking it might be better when we move there, instead of Heartguard. My vet said it is for heart worm, ticks and fleas. Just wondering how effective it would be against Ehrlichiosis.
J. Sacco
To Yvette: I was hoping a dog owner would respond to you, because I don't know much about dog Revolution. It is available here, both for dogs and puppies. If it kills ticks, it might prevent erlichia infection. Unfortunately though, I think the tick has to feed before the Revolution gets into it, so the dog probably could still get infected. If a dog is infected, it usually shows symptoms, and erlichia is easily treated with antibiotics.

Dr. Jorge Gomez is at DON HENRY, not Jorge Henry. His phone no is 775-7531 and his cell is 6675-3719

Thanks for Dr. Gomez's cell phone number. The number for K-Nino is in the PC phone book. It's 236-7131; 260-5748; and 6612-6873.
Yvette
Thanks Judy for responding. I have one other question, do you know if people treat their yards for ticks, fleas, ants, and whatever eats your lawn like here in Florida? Usually the treatment gets them all.

Thanks for making up the list. Look forward to having a copy.

There are pest control services here (like Truly Nolan). I think they do all that.
