Judy: Thanks so much for putting together a comprehensive and valuable document. It was sorely needed in the area and one that I'm sure will be readily used.

Well done Judy! Thank you very much.
Do you have one like this for Doctors and Dentists?
J. Sacco
Thanks. I have a very old one for doctors (not electronic), none for dentists. Howard Hill and Yolanda Vega are updating the old one and will post it here eventually. Put in the search term "dentist" on boquete.org. There is a long thread discussing dentists.

Dra. Chely Castillo - Is she really a vet? I have heard different things and after seeing her in action - could not do basic math for dosages - for shots and pills (I figured it for her), recommended holistic approach, limited or no suppy of medicines, etc...... Is she??
J. Sacco
Yes, Chely is a vet, and she has helped many of our cats and dogs. She doesn't have the kind of clinic you would see in the U.S., but neither do most of the vets here. When my cat was sick, she knew what to do and prescribed the right medicines, which I bought at the farmacia.

You have to realize that most Central American vets were not trained to treat pets. The pet trade is something we gringos have imposed upon them. Having said that, I find Dr. Chely extremely competent and very caring. I took my dog to Dr. Gomez in David and for about $110 he treated her for tick fever. I later described the symptoms to Dr. Chely and she told me she would do exactly what Dr. Gomez did and I would hazard a bet that Chely's price would be about 1/5 as much. I have also taken the neighbors neglected dog to Dr. Chely and she treated him for half price because she wanted to share in the good deed. Dr. Chely has done a very good job of learning veterinary vocabulary in English. And, I believe, her native language isn't even Spanish.

Thank you Penny - well said. Boquete was (and still is) mainly an agricultural community, and the vets here tend to deal with farm animals. Like you said, gringo pets are a rather new thing here.

Everybody becomes defensive with a simple question. This still does not change my thoughts of her "medicine", each to their own. I personally would never gripe about the price if my “kids” were treated correctly. If price is the deciding factor you have found your “vet”.

Thank You Judy Sacco again.... for your respectful, informative, and ongoing kind responses to the many folks who come to this forum for help and information.

There are a number of posters who really assist all the "newbies"...and those of us who need an answer to a new situation in our new Home Town.

Gracias por Todo!!

Someone mentioned a vet's name to me, but it is not in the phone book, so I couldn't find it. I think it started with a B, but that's all I remember. If you are the person I talked to, could you post the vet's name in this forum? I want to add him to the list.
Thanks,
Judy

Has anyone had experience with teeth cleaning for cats? This is not a small job as it involves general anesthetic. Thanks.

We used to have this done occasionallyin the U.K. where we bred and showed cats. I understand that they used a type of ultrasound but doubt that it is available here?

Dr. Gomez in David does teeth cleaning. He is on the vet list.
